Kids Halloween Books
Synopsis
The witch and her cat are happily flying through the sky on a broomstick when the wind picks up and blows away the witch's hat, then her bow, and then her wand! Luckily, three helpful animals find the missing items, and all they want in return is a ride on the broom. But is there room on the broom for so many friends? And when disaster strikes, will they be able to save the witch from a hungry dragon?
Annotation
Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler team up again after their award-winning book The Gruffalo. Here they show a different view - that witches in kids Halloween books can be nice and that friends are worth having when you’re in a jam.
This light-hearted and playful kids Halloween book shows a kinder, gentler witch and her adventures leading up to Halloween. Along her way to the witching hour, the witch and her purring cat meet a spotted dog, a green parrot, and a croaking frog. When the trouble starts, you can imagine the chorus of “a yowl and a growl / and a croak and a shriek.” Written in easy-to-read rhyming phrases, Room on a Broom shows how the different animals work together to help the warty-nosed witch.
Scheffler’s comical illustrations and Donaldson’s combination of silly characters in a scary situation combine to give this kids Halloween book just the right edge. The appearance of the hungry red dragon is scary…but not too scary and the surprising end will amuse and delight readers.
Room on a Broom is a Pumpkin Goblin-approved kids Halloween book.
